With an aspiration to reach for the highest of standards in professional floristry The Society of Floristry Limited was founded in 1951. Moving into the twenty-first century Society continues to flourish, gathering momentum in an ever changing and competitive world, retaining its special qualities and its emphasis on excellence in workmanship but also expanding in response to exciting professional growth. The Society functions under the direction of the President and Council, all members contributing in a voluntary capacity with a commitment to the industry.

SOF offers a choice of category of membership each with specific benefits and with inevitable savings for all! The annual show is a highlight for membership with opportunities to attend practical design workshops; practical and theory exam workshops; absorb ideas from top florists, both national and international, by attending design theatres and a chance to push personal boundaries by entering competitions. Those with the highest floristry qualifications may be invited to demonstrate their skills in floral design. This is a calendar event that nurtures professional growth and gives pure enjoyment; entrance and event fee attendance at exclusive rates for members.

In 1999 the generous bequest of Past President Doris Ware, Founder and Honorary Member, enabled the establishment of the Society of Floristry Training Fund. Members are eligible to apply for these educational awards with the possibility of an outstanding learning experience. Awardees have assisted eminent master florists at annual workshops or secured a hands-on place at a workshop. They have also enjoyed professional SOF examiner training.

The Society of Floristry, an awarding body acknowledged by the Department of Education, fulfils a strong training role in the education of florists. This includes the preparation for and setting of the highest floristry qualifications as well as designing programmes for the training of SOF judges and examiners.

Members receive the Society's enlightening quarterly publication, Focal Point, a finger on the pulse reflection on what is happening in professional floristry covering educational, business and design developments. Members are amongst the first to know! Their enriching views and relevant news is valued. The President's letter updates members between each edition.

A diverse and progressive list of publications as well as book reviews are accessible on line. Publications can also be viewed and bought directly from SOF at events throughout the year.

Members are warmly encouraged to volunteer to help at events. Expand your knowledge and extend your floristry experience… it's a two way process and a very fulfilling one.
